Conrad launches Meghalaya Class Readiness Program E-Books

Shillong, Feb 6: Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma today launched the CM Impact Meghalaya Class Readiness Program e-books, designed to bridge learning gaps between grades and promote greater academic success.  Also present at the launch were Chief Secretary D.P. Wahlang, Commissioner & Secretary of Education Vijay Mantri, and Chairman of MIDC James K. Sangma.

Speaking at the launch, Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma stated that the government has been working diligently to transform the education sector. “We face numerous challenges in education, including issues related to teachers, infrastructure, and the diverse categories of schools,” he said. “While addressing these challenges, we have also focused on improving pass percentages in secondary school examinations, which has been a key priority.” He explained that while various strategies have been implemented towards this goal, the Meghalaya Class Readiness Program represents another step toward improving the quality of learning, not only at the secondary level but also at the primary and upper primary levels.

He emphasized the need for systematic change in classroom learning and teaching. “I hope that with initiatives like these, we will make a significant impact at different levels, bridge existing gaps, and achieve the goals we have set for the education sector,” he added.

The Meghalaya Class Readiness Program is a transformative initiative designed to empower students and strengthen the educational system. The program aims to bridge learning gaps and build strong foundations for lifelong learning by improving foundational literacy and learning outcomes across all grades. Designed for students in Classes 1 through 10, the program will ensure that every child is equipped with the necessary skills to progress academically. Key features include engaging learning materials and a focus on experiential learning to make education more interactive and effective.  The Meghalaya Class Readiness Program is a four-week program for all teachers in all schools across the state, representing a short-term intervention aimed at achieving equitable and quality education for all.

Swapnil Tembe, Director of the Directorate of School Education and Literacy, explained that the program is based on the Vidya Pravesh module developed by NCERT. This module helps students transition smoothly between grades, ensuring school readiness and a seamless educational progression. “For the first month, all teachers from Classes 1 through 10 will implement this program to help students become class-ready and facilitate their smooth transition from one level to another,” he added.  He also announced that the Directorate will conduct webinars to train teachers on the Meghalaya Class Readiness Program.
