CM wears Eri silk outfit in House, urges MLAs to go for it
Shillong, Mar 10: Making a significant “Vocal-for-Local” statement, chief minister Conrad K Sangma on Monday not only donned an Eri silk shirt in the state assembly, but also urged other MLAs to go for Eri outfits to support and promote weavers and textiles of the state.
Sangma also assured to send Eri silk clothes to Prime Minister’s Office and the other central ministers’ offices.
Vouching for the high comfort level provided by Eri silk outfits while drawing attention to his attire, he said, “This particular Eri has been coloured with natural dye…I have made more than 15 shirts like these and I am wearing them regularly because they are extremely comfortable.”
The chief minister also shared about an incident of Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan asking for Eri silk clothes to be made into kurtas and shirts.
The chief minister urged the MLAs to adopt Eri silk outfits, saying, “By taking small action, we are able to support our weavers and SHGs. This is a small, very powerful way to give the message.”
Also stating that Iaishah Rymbai, who founded Eri Weave Pvt Ltd, has secured a deal of Rs 20 lakh with 12% equity in Shark Tank Indian Season 4, the CM said, “This is a strong reflection of the support we have been given by creating so many jobs and livelihood activities.”
