Contribute towards welfare of soldiers, veterans: Governor

Shillong, Dec 8: Governor CH Vijayashankar has urged citizens to contribute generously towards welfare of soldiers, veterans, and their families. 

During a meeting with Col (retd) GK Rai, director of Sainik Welfare Board, Meghalaya at Raj Bhavan on Armed Forces Flag Day, the governor acknowledged the invaluable contributions of the armed forces towards security and integrity of the nation. 

During the meeting, Col Rai pinned the Armed Forces Flag on the Governor’s chest, symbolising the nation’s respect and gratitude towards the armed forces.

As a gesture of appreciation for Col Rai’s selfless service and his commitment to the welfare of ex-servicemen and their families, the governor presented him with a personal contribution of ₹25,000.

He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting initiatives that honour and assist the armed forces community in Meghalaya and beyond.

The Armed Forces Flag Day is observed annually on December 7 to honour the martyrs and veterans and to support their families, creating a sense of national pride and unity.
