Corruption alleged in JJM project in SG Hills

Shillong, Sep 24: An FIR was lodged against the contractor, PHE officials and a third-party inspector for alleged corruption in implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) project at Gare Songmong and adjoining areas in South Garo Hills district.

The complainant, Tengba Marak, a local resident lodged the FIR at Nongalbibra police station on Tuesday.

Seeking strict action against the persons, he alleged poor and substandard work in implementing the project in the region.

He stated that pipelines laid are of inferior quality, construction is faulty, and many households are yet to receive functional tap connections despite completion certificates being issued.

Besides, tanks constructed under the project are filled with mud and sand with grass grown over it and no water running for even a week from the date of completion of the project.

“Signatures from the villagers are collected to withdraw funds in deceptive and fraudulent manner without proper procedure and awareness thereof,” he alleged.
