Crackdown on unauthorized brick kilns in West Garo Hills

Tura, March 14: In a clampdown on illegal brick kiln operations, the District Magistrate of West Garo Hills, Vibhor Aggarwal, has ordered the immediate closure of all unauthorized brick kilns across the district under Section 163 of the BNSS, 2023.

The action follows directives issued by the National Green Tribunal (NGT), which has mandated the closure of brick kilns operating without the required environmental clearance.

District authorities said several such kilns have been found operating in West Garo Hills, raising serious concerns over air pollution and the health of workers and nearby residents.

In view of the potential environmental and public health hazards, the district administration has enforced the prohibitory order, directing the immediate shutdown of all unauthorized brick kilns in the district.
