DCs authorised to renew land lease

Shillong, Dec 10: The state government has simplified the procedure for renewal of lease given on excess government land in the state.

There are huge patches of government land leased out in and around Shillong many years ago.

The lease agreements are periodically renewed every 30 years, and documents are centrally processed in the state capital for the purpose.

To simplify the process, the state cabinet on Tuesday took a decision to simplify the process by delegating powers to deputy commissioners to extend the lease.

“We have simplified the procedure… so that the Deputy Commissioners can take the decisions … without having to come to the government,” Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said after the cabinet meeting.
