Delhi meet on Oct 21 to decide BJP candidate

Shillong, Oct 17: The BJP will decide the party candidate for Gambegre bye-election after a meeting with its central leadership in New Delhi on October 21.

Informing this, BJP leader and cabinet minister AL Hek on Thursday said two-three aspirants are likely to apply for the party ticket.

“Once they apply, the party will make the best decision on whom to give the ticket. Also, we are going for a meeting in Delhi on October 21. We will also have had virtual discussions with the leaders to fix the candidate for the bye-election,” he added.

Admitting the delay in announcing the candidate, Hek said, “This time they have called us to discuss, so we will discuss and after that only, we will finalise the candidate,” he added.

On BJP’s election agenda, he said there are numerous schemes for the poorest of the poor and development work done in a huge scale under the NDA government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “That is our mantra. But it depends on the choice of the people,” he said.

To a question on allegations levelled by BJP in Garo Hills against the ruling NPP, Hek said, “We are part of the MDA government…. but people have their own opinion whether you accept it or not…”
