Shillong, May 15: The demand for setting up a Community & Rural Development (C&RD) Block at Umden in Ri-Bhoi district, which was also raised in the assembly, has earned more attention with an assurance from C&RD minister Abu Taher Mondal to take up the issue with chief minister Conrad K Sangma.
The minister reportedly gave the assurance to a delegation of Nongtluh Mathan Marmain Development Forum (NMMDF) led by UDP legislator from Nongpoh Mayralborn Syiem.

“We have to take up this matter with the chief minister, planning and finance departments and then only we will come to a conclusion,” Mondal said.
Underscoring the importance of the demand, he said the issue was also raised by the Nongpoh legislator in the floor of the Assembly.
Stating that the creation of block is a continuous process, Mondal said, “(New block will be created) as and when the government finds it fit. This year, we created Mawhati block in Ri-Bhoi district.”
Syiem assured that he would persistently pursue the matter with the government.
“I hope the positive approach and the aspiration of the people of more than 250 villages under the proposed Umden block will see the light of the day,” he added.
