Don’t be intimidated by risks in business: CM

Rs 146 cr released for 2,840 projects under CM Elevate last year

Shillong, July 25: Chief minister Conrad K Sangma has called for the zeal for business among entrepreneurs in the state and urged them not to be intimidated by the risks involved in starting a business.

In his address at the opening of a swimming pool funded under CM Elevate programme, he urged the entrepreneurs to work hard to take the risk for success of their business.

There has to be a strong, vibrant and dynamic culture and ecosystem for entrepreneurship to meet the growing demands of youth who enter into the workforce every year, he said.

Inaugurating the True North Swimming Academy at Lapalang here, the chief minister said that he was thrilled to see the well-designed layout, high quality infrastructure and focus on details.

“I am also amazed by the passion of the team who had started this project and the results that we see in front of us is a great example of what we can achieve if we put our hearts and souls into what we believe,” he said.

As many as 2,840 projects were cleared under CM Elevate last year, releasing Rs 146 crore to entrepreneurs, Sangma said.

“Our target in the next two to three years is to touch 20,000 entrepreneurs with a budget of over Rs 500 crore for different enterprises,” he added.

Meanwhile, he said, the government is working towards creating an economic value of the state’s sports talent and enthusiasm.

“Our children are good at different sports but we have to look at how to generate an economy or employment out of that and hence the convergence between entrepreneurship and sports is important,” he said.

Sangma also expressed the hope that the Academy will be able to produce swimmers to win medals in National Games to be hosted by Meghalaya in 2027.

Meanwhile, True North Centre received the largest support of Rs 1 crore under CM Elevate programme.

Gary Lamare, founding member of team True North, informed that the centre also has a gym but focus will be on the swimming academy.

He said the swimming pool is manned by trained and certified instructors providing safe environment for the members.
