DY CM warns HNLC of closure of door for talks

Shillong, Jan 25: Deputy chief minister in-charge Home (Police) Prestone Tynsong on Friday warned the proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) that the door for peace talks will be closed some day.

Stating that the appeal for peace talks has been made by both state and central government, he said warned, “I urge them to think about it. Since the door for talks is still open, it is better for them to come forward to the negotiating table.”

“Time will come that the door will be closed,” he said.

The HNLC had pulled out of the tripartite peace talks in January last year alleging the government’s failure to address their five core demands that include providing of general amnesty to its leaders and cadres.

Refuting HNLC’s allegation about police using surrendered HNLC cadres anti-terrorism, Tynsong said, “We already have a 24×7 full-fledged force, which is fully trained and committed to ensuring safety and security of every citizen of the state.”

On recent release of HNLC’s manifesto, the deputy CM said, “It is for the people to judge, but the state government’s responsibility is to ensure safety and security of citizens.”
