Shillong, Dec 13: With an objective to showcase diverse and unique tradition of North Garo Hills, the two-day Awe Festival kickstarted at Mini Stadium Resubelpara on Friday.
Awe Festival, being held for the past four years, symbolises one of the sub tribes of the Garo community known for their hospitable nature and love for food, music and dance.
Festivals are being held in other districts of the state by different names with different cultural meanings.
Various activities have been lined up for the festival, including flowers and vegetables show, indigenous games, cooking competition, singing competition, dance competition, beauty contest, baby show and rock concert by various local artistes.
Inaugurating the festival, deputy speaker & Resubelpara MLA Timothy D Shira promised more funds for the festival next year by collaborating with all district MLAs.
He also launched a Health ATM which conducts instant body vitals screening and opened the stalls exhibition represented by medical, agri-horti departments, fisheries, handloom, DCIC and various other line departments.
Mendipathar MLA Marthon J Sangma, North Garo Hills deputy commissioner AK Singh also addressed the occasion.
