
Tura, May 29: The first ever District Level Inter School Games 2025 began at Tura today with the three day event taking place across four different locations, with Taekwondo event at Don Bosco Higher Secondary Section, Mini Sports Hall, Badminton and Table Tennis at Indoor Stadium, Hawakhana, Basketball at Matchakolgre Locality Basketball Court, Tura and Volleyball at Matchakolgre L P School Playground.

Speaking during the inaugural function, the West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Vibhor Agarwal lauded the department for this initiative and enabling the students to learn and show their sporting talents as well as to prepare themselves for future events. Further, mentioning that though the region has many sporting talents, he said that providing right platform is essential to upgrade the skills which would enable the athletes to boost achievement in tournaments and also represent at the district, state or international level in future. He also encouraged the athletes to aim high, acquire strong will power and move forward to scale greater heights.
The District Sports Officer, Tura Saljagring M Marak informed that the First ever District Level Inter School Games is being conducted in Tura where 17 Schools of the district competing for championship and about 500 students are participating in different disciplines namely Badminton, Basketball, Table Tennis, Taekwondo and Volleyball. He also expressed hope that more disciplines would be added and more students would participate in these games.

It may be mentioned that the event also provides an opportunity for the athletes to prepare themselves for the upcoming National Games to be held in the year 2027.
Teacher incharge of the schools, representatives of different Sports Associations, participants were among others who attended the function.
