Ampati, Oct 25: A total of 675 runners gathered at Ampati’s Indoor Stadium for the “Fit India Swachhta Freedom Run,” promoting health and cleanliness. Organized by the District Sports Office of South West Garo Hills under the initiatives of Fit India, Khelo India, and Swachhata Hi Seva, the event brought together participants of all ages.
Deputy Commissioner Hema Nayak cheered on the runners and presented awards to the top finishers. In the men’s 10-km race, Bowash K. Sangma from Williamnagar clinched first place with a time of 15 minutes and 46 seconds. He was closely followed by Bhishmadev Hajong of Marpara village and Tuebirth Ch. Sangma from Gambegre village.
In the women’s category, Neha M. Marak from Muji Agalgre secured first place, completing the course in 18 minutes and 45 seconds. Ringsechimik G. Sangma of Chigitchakgre and Dimchi Ch. Marak from Wagi Chiring took second and third places, respectively.
Deputy Commissioner Nayak praised the strong turnout, emphasizing the event’s importance in promoting fitness and community pride in cleanliness and health. “Today’s run showcases our district’s commitment to a healthier and cleaner future,” she remarked.
The event aimed to encourage healthier lifestyles and support the vision of a cleaner, greener India.
