Five Bangladeshi nationals held

Shillong, Oct 27: Five Bangladeshi nationals were arrested during a joint operation conducted by the state police special cell and special operations team (SOT) at ISBT junction, Mawlai Mawiong on Sunday night.

The individuals were traveling in a tourist vehicle bearing registration number ML 05C 1358.

They have been identified as Lelepa Begum (40), Musanat Jahana Khatoon (35), Md Imammul Hassan (18), Md Alamgir Mia (25) and Md Fajid Bilal (47), East Khasi Hills SP Vivek Syiem said on Monday.

Preliminary inquiry revealed that the individuals failed to produce valid documents, and they admitted to being Bangladeshi nationals, he said.

A criminal case has been registered at Mawlai Police Station to investigate further into the matter.
