New Delhi, July 3: The flood situation across the country showed a marginal improvement on Thursday, with 10 river stations reporting water levels above the warning mark, down from 12 such sites a day earlier, according to the Central Water Commission’s (CWC) daily flood-forecast bulletin.

No locations were in the “severe” or “extreme” flood category. However, several rivers in states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Assam, Odisha, and Tamil Nadu continued to remain under close observation, with levels breaching warning thresholds and showing rising or steady trends.

On Wednesday, 12 sites were flagged for above-normal flood situations.
By Thursday, the number had reduced to 10, with some rivers recording falling levels, indicating a slight respite from flood risks.
Among key sites, the Ganga at Farrukhabad in Uttar Pradesh recorded a falling trend, though its present level was recorded at 137.09 metres, crossing its warning level of 136.6 metres. The Ghagra at Elginbridge, also in Uttar Pradesh, was nearing danger levels at 105.28 metres with a forecasted fall to 105 metres.

Reservoir inflows remained significant on both days. Inflow forecasts were issued for 24 sites on Thursday. Major structures, such as Maithon in Jharkhand, Krishnarajasagar and Upper Tunga in Karnataka, were among those that saw a rising-trend forecast.(PTI)
