Shillong, Apr 24: The Greater Shillong Water Supply Scheme (GSWSS) Phase-III has suffered delays due to multiple factors, including fund constraint and land issues, PHE minister Marcuise N Marak said on Thursday.

Informing that the work is still going on for completion of the project, the minister said, “However, it (project) got stuck because of so many issues.”

As the amount sanctioned for the project was not sufficient, the department had to mobilise funds from different sources, causing delay in the project, he said.

Besides, he said, there are land issues in terms of clearance from forest, cantonment, etc., during implementation of GSWSS-III.

Pointing out that roads need to be dug up for laying the pipes, the minister said several factors have contributed to the delay in completion of the project.

He also underscored the need to tackle issues of lack of coordination between PHE and PWD departments in implementation of the crucial project.
