West Garo Hills district magistrate Vibhor Agarwal has on Sunday promulgated Section 144 that restricts unlawful assembly of five or more persons, carrying of weapons and any activity that tantamount to disturbing public order. The order has come into effect from today itself.

The prohibitory order will remain in force until further notice, and strict action will be taken against violators under the relevant provisions of law, announced the district magistrate.

For public awareness, residents have been urged to stay informed through official notifications and avoid spreading rumours or misinformation.

Several major student and social organizations from across Garo Hills have unitedly called for two nights of  “Public imposed curfew” to oppose the PPP Mode for the Tura Medical College, and also to protest the failure of the concerned authorities to clear more than 43 months of salaries for hundreds of employees of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council.
