Gas leak at ONGC Rudrasagar well under control, no injuries reported

Guwahati, June 13: A gas leak occurred on Thursday at ONGC’s Rudrasagar oil field in Assam’s Sivasagar district, prompting a swift emergency response from the company’s Crisis Management Team.

The incident was reported at 11:45 AM at Well No. RDS-147 during routine servicing operations, when uncontrolled gas release was observed.


ONGC Director (Technical and Field Services) Vikram Saxena arrived at the site on Friday and is currently stationed at Rudrasagar to oversee operations.


According to an official statement from ONGC, safety protocols were activated immediately.

The site was secured without delay, and a response team led by the Asset Manager was dispatched. No fire broke out, and there have been no injuries reported.

As a precaution, access to the site near Bhotiapar has been restricted to essential operational personnel. Technical experts and reinforcements have been mobilised to assist in the containment efforts.

By Thursday evening, ONGC confirmed that the situation is under control. Equipment for the subdue operation has been laid out, and the necessary fluids are ready. The next phase of the operation is expected to begin at daybreak on Friday.

A detailed investigation is underway to determine the cause of the gas release. ONGC reaffirmed its commitment to operational safety and environmental stewardship, stating that the safety of personnel and the surrounding community remains its highest priority.
