Goods worth Rs 34.15 lakh seized at WJH border

Shillong, Jan 8: BSF troops in Meghalaya recovered contraband items worth Rs 34.15 lakh in West Jaintia Hills during a special operation launched on receiving specific intelligence inputs recently.

On Monday, BSF personnel detected unidentified individuals approaching the border to collect smuggled goods in the surrounding area of village Muktapur and Lynghat under West Jaintia Hills. 

The smugglers fled into the forest after they were aware of the presence of the BSF troops.

A thorough search of the area resulted in discovery and seizure of concealed contrabands which included sugar, liquor, blankets, garlic, cosmetic, medicine- all intended for illegal smuggling into Bangladesh.

The goods were subsequently handed over to the Customs Office concerned for further investigation and necessary legal action.
