Govt depts asked to verify Aadhaar with QR scanner

Shillong, Aug 27: The General Administration Department has issued a circular advising all concerned departments and the general public to utilize the Unique Identification Authority of India’s (UIDAI) Aadhaar QR Scanner App for offline verification of Aadhaar cards. This move aims to prevent the misuse of fake or manipulated Aadhaar cards.

The UIDAI has embedded a Secure QR Code in every Aadhaar letter, PVC card, and downloaded e-Aadhaar, which contains key demographic information and a photograph of the Aadhaar holder.

This code is digitally signed, tamper-proof, and can be read only using UIDAI-approved scanners or the official Aadhaar QR Code Scanner App.

The Secure QR Code feature offers several benefits, including: offline verification, making it ideal for use in remote areas with limited connectivity, instant detection of mismatches or fake Aadhaar documents and enhanced security and reliability.

The department has urged all offices, agencies, and citizens to adopt the Aadhaar QR code verification process and remain vigilant against the use of fraudulent documents.

The various entities advised to use the App are government departments and field-level staff, Banks, NBFCs, insurance companies, and telecom service providers, employers and landlords, hotels and guest houses, notaries, advocates, and document verifiers and general public for self-verification of Aadhaar authenticity

In case of suspected manipulated Aadhaar, individuals are advised to report incidents to UIDAI via help@uidai.gov.in or call 1947, and notify the Deputy Commissioner’s Office if fraud is suspected.
