Govt launches statewide survey on drug use

Shillong, Dec 3: The state government has launched a comprehensive State-wide Drug Use Survey to collect data for putting up an effective fight against the menace.

The survey will start with a pilot in Shillong city before being expanded to other parts of the state.

Aimed at gathering data to inform evidence-based interventions for prevention, de-addiction, rehabilitation, and community support, the survey is undertaken by Sankardev College, Shillong in collaboration with the Drug User Community.

“Today’s event marks the signing of the MoU between DREAM Mission and Sankardev College, Shillong, a collaboration that strengthens the scientific and research-oriented response to the drug menace in the State,” DREAM Director Francis Kharshiing said on Wednesday.

He emphasised the importance of the survey, stating, “The findings will enable the Government to formulate more accurate, targeted, and evidence-based interventions for prevention, de-addiction, rehabilitation, and community support.”

The survey is a significant step in the Government’s mission to combat substance abuse and safeguard the future of Meghalaya’s youth.
