Govt likely to resolve DA issue of teachers soon: Rymbui

Shillong, Dec 18: The state government is working to resolve various issues in education sector one by one, prioritising the welfare of teachers, students, and the education system as a whole, Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui said on Wednesday.

“We have committed to releasing the scholarship before Christmas, and it has been done. We are also addressing the issue of Deficit, and the DA issue will be resolved soon, possibly on December 19,” Rymbui told reporters.

The minister also mentioned the commitment to SSA, Adhoc, and Hindi teachers, stating that a new pay structure is being worked out and will be implemented soon.

Regarding the issue of in-service teachers, Rymbui said, “We are trying to address it. The Supreme Court judgment on September 1 has made TET compulsory, but NCTE cannot change the rules. We have written to the Union Minister to modify the NCTE regulation or policy to exempt in-service teachers appointed before the RTE Act.”

He expressed concern that the judgment could lead to job losses and emphasized that the government is trying to convince the central government to change the norms.

On the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) crisis, which has been ongoing for over a year, Rymbui said, “The silence of the central government is baffling.”

“How can we improve the education system if we don’t listen to stakeholders?” he asked.
