Govt making efforts to transform education sector: CM   

CM Conrad, wife Mehtab inaugurate new school building at Mebitpara near Dalu  

Shillong, Nov 18: Despite challenges the state government has been making efforts to bring transformative changes in the education sector, Chief minister Conrad K Sangma said on Tuesday.

“Though it is a challenging sector we are working towards transformative changes in the sector through streamlining and reformative measures benefiting not only the students but also the teachers and all stakeholders in the education sector,” Sangma said during inauguration of a new building of Mount Hermon English School at Mebitpara near Dalu in West Garo Hills.

While asserting that education is a focussed sector for the government, he elaborated on the features of the FOCUS+ and the registration process urged all to register in the new format FOCUS+.

Meanwhile, inaugurating the school building, the Chief Minister termed it a special day as it is for the first time that the his and his wife’s names – Mehtab CA Sangma is a local MLA – are together on the commemorative inaugural plaque.

The new school building was funded under Chief Minister’s Special Development Fund (CMSDF) with Rs 5.96 lakh allocated through Dalu C&RD Block.

He also said the programme is the beginning step towards fulfilling the promises made by Gambegre MLA to bring development to the area.

Conveying his best wishes to the school, he said, “I am confident that this school will play an important role in nurturing education for the children of Mebitpara and nearby areas.”

On the development projects for Gambegre and its adjoining areas, the Chief Minister particularly stressed the Ampati-Purakhasia road and informed the gathering that the road is 28 kms.

“We have sanctioned Rs 7.46 crore under the state scheme for 0-4 kms stretch of the road and 505 of the work is completed, from the 5th-20th km Rs 13.78 crore is sanctioned under PMGSY and 15% of the work is completed, for the last stretch form the 21st-28th km Rs 66 crore is funded by the World Bank and the last stretch cannot be completed under the state or the central scheme,” he said.

He also informed that he is personally monitoring and reviewing the construction of the road.

In her address, the Gambegre MLA Mehtab CA Sangma thanked the people of the village for the support that they have given her saying, “Though this is my first meeting with you I am aware of the needs and concerns of the village and I will do my best to address them.”
