Shillong, July 9: As part of the government’s new parking policy, several parking lots are being developed in the city with over 1,000 vehicles expected to be accommodated in them, said deputy chief minister in-charge Urban Affairs Sniawbhalang Dhar on Wednesday.

The government is working on finalising the parking lots, with several locations identified, including near the secretariat and Motphran.

Some parking lots are expected to be ready soon, including ones near the secretariat, Motphran, and Polo Market, he said.

He also clarified that the government is not experimenting with parking but rather legalizing it, with a clear parking policy in place.

The Polo market is expected to be inaugurated by union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday at 3:30 pm, according to the deputy CM.

Meanwhile, the process of relocating hawkers from the streets of Khyndailad has started to smooth movement of commuters and traffic, he said.
