Govt to provide jobs to medal-winning sports persons

Shillong, Oct 28: PHE Minister Marcuise N Marak on Monday said the Meghalaya government will give jobs to sports persons who win medals under the Direct Recruitment Policy.

“Sports personnel who win medals in any of the events will be given jobs under the Direct Recruitment Policy. I urge our sportspersons to take this responsibility and bring more laurels,” Marak said.

He was speaking as chief guest at a felicitation programme organised by the Officers’ Club of the East Garo Hills District Administration for district sports persons who excelled in various events, at the Williamnagar Circuit House on October 27.

Highlighting steps taken by the state government to promote games and sports, Marak said the government is committed to creating better opportunities and infrastructure for athletes.

Superintendent of Police Swapnil Vasantrao Pawar, who also spoke on the occasion, urged sportspersons to continue to bring name and fame to the district.

Deputy Commissioner RP Marak, in his welcome address, lauded the efforts and achievements of the district’s sportspersons.

The programme was organised to recognise athletes who have brought laurels to East Garo Hills in different sporting disciplines.
