Group seeks early completion of SWKH training institute, writes to Rymbui

Shillong, Oct 14: A pressure group has written to Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui to look into the delay in completion of an institute at Sakwang village in South West Khasi Hills district.

The Federation of Khasi-Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) on Tuesday urged Rymbui to “intervene and ensure that the Block Institute of Education and Training (BIET) is completed at the earliest,” group president Ken Nonglait said in the letter.

Nonglait said the delay in the completion of the institute has forced aspiring teachers to seek training at the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) in Nongstoin, West Khasi Hills, which has limited seats allocated for South West Khasi Hills.

The FKJGP claimed that despite the district being formed in 2012, it lacks development in the education sector, particularly in the absence of essential educational institutions.

This has adversely affected students from poor backgrounds, depriving them of further education opportunities, Nonglait added.
