Shillong, Oct 5: Governor CH Vijayashankar, addressing a Central Puja Committee event in the city on Friday, emphasized how Meghalaya is setting an example for other states by celebrating, not only Durga Puja, but every festival with a spirit of togetherness, upholding India’s message of “Unity in Diversity” in a true sense.

The governor attended 30th Get Together of Harmony organised by the Central Puja Committee at the Jagannath Mandir Auditorium, Hindu Dharma Sabha at Thana Road.

In his address, the governor spoke about the significance of Navratri, explaining each of the goddesses associated with each day and their symbolic meaning. He prayed for Maa Durga’s blessings to grant strength and energy for selfless service to humanity, and highlighted that the victory of good over evil is the central message of these celebrations.

He also paid tribute to Lord Jagannath Swami and was felicitated by the president and general secretary of the Central Puja Committee, as well as representatives of the Shillong Hindu Dharma Sabha. The event commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp, invoking divine blessings.

This auspicious occasion was graced by the presence of leaders from Gurudwara, Shillong Mosque, Tibetan Monastery, leaders from churches and representatives of Seng Khasi upholding the tradition of Prayer of Harmony that has been a hallmark of this gathering since 1992.

The event concluded with a vibrant cultural program presented by children, adding joy and colour to the celebrations.
