Hindu group warns of road blockade against Meghalaya over rituals at Mawsynram cave

Guwahati, Dec 15: A Hindu right wing group Kutumba Surakshya Parishad (KSP) has threatened to impose road blockade against Meghalaya over prohibition imposed on rituals conducted at Mawjymbuin cave in Mawsynram in East Khasi Hills district.

Demanding reopening of Mawjymbuin cave for Hindu rituals before Christmas, the group warned of blocking arterial roads, including Guwahati-Shillong road and Paikan-Tura road.

Hindus revere the cave due to a Shiva Linga like rock structure inside the cave, but the dorbar shnong of Mawsynram prohibited religious rituals there in August this year, citing various concerns.

The matter was brought before the Meghalaya High Court, which directed the state government to engage with relevant stakeholders to seek a resolution.

Meanwhile, KSP president Satya Ranjan Borah blamed the state authorities, including deputy commissioner and superintendent of police, for neglecting their duty in resolving the issue.
