Illicit affair: Man kills wife, wraps body in blanket

Shillong, June 19: Amid talks over the sensational Raja Raghuvanshi murder in Sohra still doing the rounds, report of another heinous crime where a man brutally killed his wife in Shillong has come to the fore.

“The accused identified as Donald Sohtun has been arrested after he surrendered himself,” East Khasi Hills SP Vivek Syiem told reporters on Thursday.

Sohtun allegedly killed his wife Priya Khongstia by smashing her head with a stone and kept her body wrapped in a blanket at their rented house at Nongrah, Nonglum here.

While he fled the house, her body was recovered three days after the crime. An FIR was lodged in this connection on May 30.

“We are treating it as a special case and we will soon file charge sheet,” the SP said while revealing the delayed report.

According to him, the investigation revealed that Sohtun had suspected his wife of having an illicit affair.

“They got into an argument and that is how he hit her (on the head with a stone),” he said.

With help of sniffer dogs, police also recovered the stone, the murder weapon.

The accused was remanded in judicial custody by the court.
