Increase capacity in MCH Hospital, Jowai: JNC

Shillong, Oct 9: The Jaintia National Council (JNC) has demanded for accommodation of more patients in the Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Hospital at Jowai.

A JNC Western Zone delegation, who visited District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO) Dr K Dhar at Jowai on Wednesday, also sought appointment of another staff at the Post-mortem department of Civil Hospital Jowai which is currently managed by just one employee.

The JNC unit also alleged that there were public complaints about shortage of medicines and power cuts in the hospitals in West Jaintia Hills district.

“We urge the government to install generators in all PHCs and CHCs within West Jaintia Hills district,” said the JNC unit’s president Hamehi Bamon

“We have also found that several hospitals may or may not have any ambulance in service,” said HNC units’s general secretary H Lyngdoh.

The JNC also urged the government to start construction of the new building of Pdengshakap PHC, where a JNC team conducted an “inspection” recently, as promised by the then health minister AL Hek.

In a letter addressed to the DMHO, the JNC Western Zone also demanded for setting up of a Nursing Examination Centre in Jaintia Hills.
