ISBT to resume functioning by year-end: Dy CM

Shillong, Jan 8: The Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) at Mawlai Mawiong here will resume functioning after completion of the alternative road from Mawlai bypass to Shillong Airport, deputy chief minister in-charge Transport Sniawbhalang Dhar said on Wednesday.

Assuring that PWD has been put on fast track to complete the alternative road, he said the PWD is likely to complete the work by the end of this year.

The ISBT has remained non-functional as buses could not come there since the restriction imposed on entry of all heavy vehicles plying through the reconstructed Umiam bridge a few months ago.

On the alleged misuse of ISBT by anti-social elements, Dhar said, “My officers are visiting the ISBT from time to time and so far, there is no report about such anti-social elements (in the premises).”

Further, the deputy CM said that the government did not want to go for a temporary solution because it wanted to go for a permanent solution by constructing the alternative road.

Meanwhile, he said, the Tourism department had been apprised of the concern over passenger amenities including toilets at Umiam from where the buses are operating at present.
