Jaintia group asks Dhar to resolve border issue

Shillong, July 9: The Jaintia Students Movement (JSM) Lapangap Unit has appealed to the Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar to take serious action in addressing the problems faced by Lapangap village, which have been ongoing since 2020.

Members of the JSM greeted the deputy chief minister with banners demanding government to resolve the issue without delay.

The unit appreciated the Deputy Chief Minister’s visit to the village but expressed concerns that it might be a mere publicity stunt for electoral gains in 2028.

“We don’t want him (Dhar) to come to the village just to get votes for 2028. We don’t want him to just fool the leaders and residents of the village,” a leader of the JSM said.

The JSM Lapangap Unit has urged the Deputy Chief Minister to take up the issue seriously and visit the spot to witness the problems faced by the villagers.

The unit has demanded that the government come up with a permanent solution to the problems faced by the villagers.

The JSM Lapangap Unit has demanded the government to remove the Assam police personnel who are camping at Lum Pynthor, Lapangap, and replace them with Meghalaya police to ensure the safety and security of the villagers, particularly when they visit their paddy fields.
