JSU demands rectification of ‘anomalies’ in MBBS merit list

Shillong, Oct 3: The Jaintia Students’ Union (JSU) has demanded for immediate “rectification” of the merit list of MBBS seats under central pool quota following alleged anomalies in allocation of the seats.

In its complaint lodged with Directorate of Health Services (DHS) on Friday, the JSU sought re-adjustment of the merit list and shifting of eligible Khasi and Jaintia candidates to Open category merit list, with no alteration to their current college/institution allotments within seven days.

According to JSU, meritorious Khasi and Jaintia students were denied their rightful places in the Open category despite having higher NEET scores than some selected candidates.

It has pointed out specific instances where meritorious candidates from Khasi and Jaintia categories have been overlooked in favour of less meritorious candidates in Open category.

This not only contravenes established legal precedents but also deprives deserving students of opportunities aligned with their academic excellence.

Citing the instances, the JSU demanded for shifting of eight Khasi & Jaintia candidates, “all of whom meet or exceed the merit threshold for Open category consideration”, to the Open category merit list.

The JSU also demanded for utilisaiton of the freed reserved seats to accommodate additional Khasi and Jaintia candidates from the waiting list, maximising community benefits.
