Shillong, June 6: Keeping in view the recent trouble students seeking under-graduate courses faced during their Common University Entrance Test (CUET), the Jaintia Students’ Union (JSU) has demanded for setting up a CUET centre at Jowai for convenience of the candidates from Jaintia Hills region.
A delegation of JSU Shillong Circle on Friday met commissioner & secretary Vijay Kumar Mantri and requested him to take up with the government & National Testing Agency (NTA) the need for setting up the CUET centre at Jowai.
Many students from Jaintia Hills were compelled to travel long distances to Shillong or other far-off centres to appear in CUET, said JSU adviser A Suchiang.

Suchiang said financial hardship is a significant challenge for a large number of students in this region to come to bear the cost of transportation, food, and accommodation in Shillong and elsewhere.
Traffic congestion in Shillong city is also another problem for the students, especially during peak hours. Many students have experienced delays and anxiety due to traffic jams on the way to exam centres, he said.
Meanwhile, the JSU adviser said, the commissioner and secretary assured the delegation of sending officials to Jowai to survey some institutes or any suitable centre for setting up a CUET centre.
The JSU is ready to work with the government and provide any assistance required in this regard, he said.
