Guwahati, Oct 23: Its a museum dedicated to patriots who sacrificed their lives in the Kameng Region in Arunachal Pradesh.
It is not just a collection of artifacts from the six tribes of West Kameng but also features items representing various other tribes across Arunachal Pradesh, along with collections related to the 1962 war.
Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Pema Khandu, Minister of State for Rural Development Kamlesh Paswan, inaugurated the “Kameng Cultural & Heritage Museum” at Nyukmadung, under the Dirang Subdivision of West Kameng District.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Khandu expressed his gratitude to all stakeholders involved in the successful establishment of the museum in such a short period. He emphasized that the museum is not just a collection of artifacts from the six tribes of West Kameng but also features items representing various other tribes across Arunachal Pradesh, along with collections related to the 1962 war.
Khandu mentioned that the museum has the potential to become a major tourist destination in the region.
The Chief Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to boosting border tourism and improving road and network connectivity to all border villages under the Vibrant Village Programme.
He remarked that previous governments failed to build roads in areas around the McMahon Line due to preconceived notions, but under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, the government plans to connect every village and promote tourism in border areas, in collaboration with the Indian Army.
Khandu also highlighted the potential for adventure tourism in the state, stating that the government is working on developing trekking routes like the Mago Trekking route. He encouraged the youth to enhance skills in adventure sports like rafting, climbing, and paragliding through institutes like the National Institute of Mountaineering and Adventure Sports (NIMAS). Additionally, he urged them to connect with Industrial Training Institutes (ITI) to learn skills like carpentry, electrical work, plumbing, etc. ensuring economic independence rather than solely relying on government jobs.
Minister of State for Rural Development, Kamlesh Paswan, praised the Indian Army for the successful construction of the museum and commended the local community for their generous contribution of 2 acres of land for the project He also appreciated the state government for effectively implementing various schemes at the grassroots level.
Paswan highlighted the Government of India’s focus on the welfare and development of the northeastern region under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The museum, constructed by the Indian Army under Operation Sadbhavana, is dedicated to the brave patriots who sacrificed their lives in the Kameng Region. The Kameng Culture and Heritage Museum was brought to life through the combined efforts of the Indian Army, the Government of India’s Vibrant Village Programme, and support from the local community. This collaboration has resulted in a museum that not only preserves artifacts but also reflects the cultural and religious ties between various communities in Arunachal Pradesh. It showcases the state’s history, religious traditions, archaeology, the 1962 war, and ethnography.
The museum complex includes a theater, children’s park, cafeteria, traditional houses, local shops, etc. The local community contributed by donating 343 traditional artifacts.
