KHNAM to hold sit-in over recruitment process

Shillong, Aug 16: To put a stop to what it calls “practice of nepotism and favouritism” in the recruitment process, the Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) will be holding a one-day sit-in on August 19 to pressurise the state government to do away with the personal interview for government jobs.

KHNAM working president Thomas Passah on Friday announced that the sit-in will be held at Malki ground from 10 am to 5 pm on August 19.

“The protest is to pressurize the state government to consider doing away with the personal interviews for government jobs in the posts falling under Group B, C &D in order to end practice of nepotism and favouritism in the recruitment process,” Passah said.

Urging support from citizens and NGOs to join hands with the party, the KHNAM president said it will send a strong message to the state government.

He also asked the 60 MLAs to raise the issue during the upcoming Assembly’s autumn session which is scheduled to start from August 23. “If the 60 MLAs remain silent on this issue it will only show that they too are involved in corruption practices. Therefore, we also urge all 60 MLAs to raise this issue for the benefit of the people of the state and urge the state government to consider the demand,” said Passah.

“We will continue to raise this issue until the government is ready to do away with the personal interview,” he added.

The party also accused both the MDA I and MDA II government of turning a deaf ear to their letter where the central government had notified an order to do away with personal interview and conduct recruitment based on merits.

Disagreeing with Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma’s response to the issue raised by UDP MLA Nujorki Sungoh in previous Assembly sessions, the party has asked the chief minister to specify what the advantages that people get from conducting the personal interview.

KHNAM said this will not pave the way for corrupt means of recruitment.
