Kolkata doctor rape-murder case: Ajmal writes to PM Modi, seeks stringent action against culprits

Guwahati Aug 19: All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) supremo and former MP Maulana Badaruddin Ajmal on Sunday demanded Prime Minister for stringent punishment against guilty of Kolkata’s doctor rape and murder case, and to ensure the safety and security of all on-duty female doctors, nurses and medical staffs in all over India including Assam

In a letter to PM Modi, Ajmal demanded stringent punishment against the criminal who is guilty of rape and murder of a postgraduate female trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.

“I also demand severe action against all those who tried to hide the crime and attempted to destroy the evidence,” Ajmal said.

Ajmal appreciated that CBI took over the case and started an investigation but said it should be remembered that this is a matter related to the safety and security of our doctors and medical staff who work hard for the better health of people. “This should not be used for political gains by anyone because such heinous incidents hang overhead in shame in front of the world rather than all should be united against it,” he said.

“At present, the entire nation is mourning the shocking incident and doctors, nursing staff and others in all over the country are on strike demanding punishment against the guilty. This situation is creating a crisis for patients in the country,” he also said.

Ajmal suggested the Prime Minister to ensure stringent punishment against the guilty of the Kolkata doctor rape and murder case by fast track court within a few days to set an example so that no one else can dare to commit such a crime.

He also urged PM Modi to constitute a committee to talk to doctors’ groups and consider their demands so that they end the strike and resume their duties.
