Mahila Cong seeks action against dog menace in city

Shillong, July 18: The Meghalaya Pradesh Mahila Congress (MPMC) has expressed concern over incidents of stray dogs attacking pedestrians in several localities of Shillong city.

There are frequent reports of citizens, especially women, children, and elderly being chased or bitten by stray dogs, said MPMC president Joplyn Scott Shylla.

Asserting that such incidents have caused fear and insecurity among the public, the MPMC urged the Shillong Municipal Board (SMB) and other relevant authorities to take immediate action to address the issue.

It also suggested for catching and shifting the stray dogs to proper shelters.

The MPMC also expressed disappointment over non-implementation of court directives on the matter, including construction of dog shelters, sterilisation and vaccination of dogs.

“Safety and well-being of the people of Shillong must not be compromised,” Shylla said.
