‘Administrative City’ to house Secretariat & all directorate offices
Shillong, Nov 20: The fast-growing New Shillong Township (NST), expected to share a lot of urban burden of Shillong including the traffic, will witness completion of many of the ongoing important projects by 2026.
Informing this during an inspection of major NST projects on Wednesday, chief minister Conard K Sangma said, “We are happy to see that many of the projects are completed… by 2026 end, we should see large numbers of these projects being completed,” he stated.
“We are trying to make this entire zone and the administrative city into a modern city keeping in mind the next 50 years of overall governance and ensuring that the requirements are seen from the futuristic view,” he said.
The new Secretariat, Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC), second phase of the IT Park, a 400-seat working women’s hostel, Skill Park and Prime Innovation Hub are among the projects inspected by the chief minister accompanied by deputy chief minister in-charge urban affairs Sniawbhalang Dhar.
A large secretariat building will be the centre of the 232-acre New Shillong Administrative City that will also house all the directorate offices.
Sangma also reviewed progress of the new four-lane road and proposed conversion of the existing two-lane road into four-lane that will have dedicated cycling tracks, utility ducts, footpaths, green space, etc.
Meanwhile, the chief minister expected the hope that gradual shifting of the administrative units to NST would decongest Shillong city besides providing a modern and strong infrastructure for future generations.
Admitting that all development works in NST are happening in a piecemeal basis, he said, “It is being planned and implemented in a structured manner to ensure sustainability, efficiency keeping in mind the urban biodiversity to prosper and develop as a state.”
