Tura, May 4: A road construction worker who tried to take his own life in Tura bazar has been detained by police to prevent self harm.
Hailing from the state of Arunachal Pradesh, Upen Das (aged 30), resident of Alubari Namsai, had come to join work with a road construction company and was staying in a hotel in Tura bazar. He reportedly suffers from mental illness.
According to police, the accused tried to stab himself with a dagger and attempted to board a public bus from the market when he was caught and taken by police to Tura Civil Hospital for a medical check up.
While at the hospital, the accused broke free and fled but was recaptured soon after.
Police said that the accused is being returned to his state accompanied by some of his colleagues.
