Manipur CM calls migrant killings  conspiracy to destabilize the state

Guwahati, Dec 15: Manipur Chief Minister Biren Singh has described the killing of two migrant workers from Bihar as part of a “larger conspiracy” aimed at destabilizing the state and pushing it further into chaos.

According to police, armed attackers fatally shot two migrant workers near the panchayat office in Keirak, located on the Kakching-Wabagai Road in Kakching district, on Saturday evening. The victims, identified as Sunalal Kumar (18) and Dasharat Kumar (17), were riding bicycles along with a few others when the attack occurred.

The deceased were residents of Rajwahi village under the jurisdiction of Yadavpur police station in Bihar’s Gopalganj district. They had been engaged in construction work in Manipur and were staying in rented accommodation in Kakching.

“At this crucial juncture, we cannot ignore the possibility that this horrific crime is part of a larger conspiracy to destabilize our state and push it further towards chaos,” Chief Minister Biren Singh said. “We must stand together against these destructive forces and ensure that they do not succeed in creating fear and insecurity.”

Singh strongly condemned the “brutal killing” of the two young workers, calling it a “direct assault on our values.” He expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the victims.

“This act of terrorism is a direct assault on our values, and my deepest condolences go out to their grieving families,” he stated.

The state government has announced an ex gratia of ₹10 lakh for each bereaved family. Authorities are making “every possible effort” to identify, apprehend, and prosecute the perpetrators. Chief Minister Singh added that, if necessary, the case would be transferred to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to ensure a fair and thorough inquiry.
