Master trainers from NE states trained at CTI  

Civil Defence and Home Guards  

Shillong, Dec 5: Altogether 34 master trainers were trained in the first phase of the Central scheme for training and capacity building of Civil Defence at the Central Training Institute (CTI) of Civil Defence and Home Guards.

The master trainers include 18 from Meghalaya, 16 from Tripura and two from Mizoram, said MK Sangma, Director of Civil Defence & Home Guards while addressing the 63rd Raising Day of Civil Defence & Home Guards on Friday.

The CTI is among 17 such institutes in the country selected to implement the Central scheme.

He emphasised significant advancements, including installation of air raid sirens across all districts and the plan to expand the reach of these air raid sirens to subdivision and block Level.

The fourth batch of Civil Defence Volunteers and Wardens are undergoing training while the target of training 360 CD Volunteers and Wardens has been set by the end of this month.

Sangma also informed about the completion of recruitment process for 445 posts, including sub-inspectors, guardsmen, drivers and non-combatant staff in record time.

Meanwhile, the government has sanctioned restructuring of the SDRF and Border Wing Home Guards (BWHG) as a semi-volunteer force as originally sanctioned by MHA, to strengthen the State’s disaster response capacity.

The subsumption of 708 permanent posts of the Border Wing Home Guards Battalion into two Battalions of SDRF consisting of 304 personnel each will be organised as 1st SDRF Bn based in Shillong and catering to the Eastern Range and the 2nd SDRF Battalion based in Tura and catering to the Western Range of the State.

Plans are afoot to construct a permanent office building of the Directorate of Civil Defence and Home Guards at Mawkasiang.

As part of the occasion, the President’s Meritorious Service Medal was presented to Prafulla Basumatry, Havildar, Border Wing Home Guards Bn.

The DG Disc & Commendation Certificates were given to five recipients on the occasion.
