Mawlai to face Ladthadlaboh in first-ever floodlit semifinal on Monday

Meghalaya State League 2024

Shillong, Jan 26: Football fans are in for a treat as Mawlai and Ladthadlaboh will face off in the first semifinal of the Meghalaya State League (MSL) 2024 under floodlights at the SSA Stadium, First Ground, Polo, on Monday.

The kick-off is scheduled for 4:30 PM.

While there was a group-stage match played under lights in Tura earlier, this marks the first-ever knockout game under such conditions in the history of the MSL. The Meghalaya Football Association (MFA), in collaboration with the Government of Meghalaya, has confirmed that tickets will be available at the venue, priced at Rs. 50 for general admission and Rs. 100 for VIP gallery access.

Mawlai, semifinalists in the 2023 edition of the MSL, will aim to improve on last year’s performance, where they were eliminated by Khliehmawlieh. This time, Mawlai exacted their revenge by defeating Khliehmawlieh in the quarterfinals, setting the stage for their clash against Ladthadlaboh.

Ladthadlaboh, representing West Jaintia Hills, will pose a formidable challenge as they aim to make history. They advanced to the semifinals with a convincing 5-2 victory over Sutnga in the quarters. The team hopes for strong support from traveling fans when they take the field in Shillong.

The second semifinal is set for Tuesday at 1:30 PM in Wahiajer, featuring Shillong Lajong against Rymbai Shkenshynriah. Lajong, the 2019 MSL champions, secured their spot in the semis with a commanding 3-1 win over defending champions Rangdajied United in the quarterfinals. Rymbai Shkenshynriah, on the other hand, earned their place by defeating Chipakkore 2-0 in Tura.

As the competition narrows to the final four teams, only Lajong have previously claimed the MSL title. The upcoming semifinals promise thrilling football as the teams vie for a spot in the grand finale.
