Mawphlang CHC gets a first referral unit

Ampareen urges people to trust govt-run hospitals

Shillong, Sept 28: Mawphlang Community Health Centre (CHC) now has a First Referral Unit (FRU) which will provide emergency obstetric and newborn care, including deliveries by C-section, and other emergency services.

Inaugurating the unit on Friday, Health Minister, Ampareen Lyngdoh emphasised the need to trust government hospitals, dispelling the notion that they are inferior. The minister reiterated the government’s goal of providing quality healthcare closer to villagers’ homes.

Mawphlang CHC has enhanced its facilities, employing five medical officers, one junior specialist, three dental sergeants, and one Ayush doctor, said the minister. The centre now offers 39 medical tests, reducing the need for villagers to travel to Shillong.

The minister also stressed on the importance of registering with Meghalaya Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS) and urged the villagers to link it to their Aadhaar for free treatment.

Encouraging collective efforts to establish Mawphlang CHC as a reputable treatment centre, she  advised villagers to seek immediate medical attention at nearby health centres.

M B Kurbah, MLA and other officials were also present at the inauguration.
