MeECL hopes to clear all power dues by next year

Dues to all power companies, except NTPC, cleared by MeECL

Shillong, Feb 18: In what can be a huge boost to state’s power scenario, the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) has calculated that it would be able to clear its outstanding due of ₹560 crore to NTPC by next year.

The MeECL has already neutralised its outstanding dues of all the power companies except the National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC), a source in the power department said.

From around ₹664 crore, the outstanding amount has been reduced to ₹565 crore.

“The dues were paid in 20 instalments, we are paying. We hope that by next year it will be neutralised,” the source said.

Meanwhile, the MeECL has made efforts to ensure judicious use of power, according to the source.

The department has underscored the need for a mix of hydel and thermal power projects at 60:40 ratio to meet the demand for power in the state, the source said.
