The order, which will be enforced from 8pm to 6am, was issued by the District Magistrate RM Kurbah on Tuesday prohibiting movement of people at the Bangladesh border with the intention of crossing the international boundary or sneak into the Indian Territory.

It also disallowed unauthorized procession or unlawful assembly of five or more persons and carrying arms/other instruments which can be used as weapons including sticks/rods and stones in and around the Indo-Bangladesh border besides illegal, undesirable activities including smuggling of cattle, contrahand goods, betelnut, betel leaves, dry fish, bidis, cigarettes, chai patti, etc.

The order was passed to prevent any likelihood of cross border movement of unwanted elements, members of proscribed militant groups, smugglers etc by taking advantage of certain portion of the border areas in East Khasi Hills which is still being porous.

“…such illegal/undesirable activities if not prevented may lead to uncontrollable cross border infiltration resulting in breach of peace and tranquility in the district,”the order stated.
