Meghalaya police officers honoured for golden feat at World Games

Shillong, July 25: In a proud moment for Meghalaya, two police officers Alan Marbaniang and Wandalin Syiemiong were felicitated on Thursday for winning gold medals at the World Police & Fire Games 2025, held in Birmingham, Alabama, USA.

A special ceremony was organised at the U Soso Tham Auditorium in Shillong to celebrate their achievement. The event was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong as the Chief Guest and Sports Minister Shakliar Warjri as the Guest of Honour. Top police officials, friends, family members, and well-wishers were also present to mark the occasion.

In his address, Tynsong praised the two officers for their dedication and hard work, calling their victories an inspiration for the entire police force and young athletes across the state. He said their success not only brought pride to the Meghalaya Police but also highlighted the state’s growing presence on the global sports stage.

Sports Minister Warjri also congratulated the duo, applauding their determination and sporting spirit. He said the government remains committed to promoting sports among uniformed personnel and will continue to invest in better training and facilities.

The medallists were presented with mementoes and certificates in recognition of their outstanding performance. Competing against participants from various countries, their triumph has been hailed as a major boost to Meghalaya’s image in international sports.

The World Police & Fire Games is a prestigious event where law enforcement officers, firefighters, and correctional personnel from around the world come together to compete in a wide range of sporting disciplines.
