Meghalaya Speaker satisfied with new Assembly building progress

Shillong, Dec 11: Assembly Speaker  Thomas A Sangma on Thursday conducted a detailed inspection of the upcoming Assembly building complex at Mawdiangdiang and said he was ‘pleased with the pace and quality of work’.

Accompanied by the Deputy Speaker and senior officials, Sangma reviewed the ongoing works and preparations for the Pre-Christmas celebration scheduled for December 19, which will be held at the new premises for the first time.

“The team assessed overall progress and confirmed that necessary arrangements are moving forward as planned,” Sangma said.

The inspection focused on the power supply infrastructure being implemented by the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL).

Sangma held discussions with MeECL officials to expedite the connection of the main power line to the complex.

“We are pleased with the pace and quality of work on the project,” Sangma stated, expressing satisfaction with the progress.

The Speaker reiterated confidence that construction will be completed within the timeline recommended by the High-Powered Committee (HPC). The main Assembly Hall is slated for completion by June 2026, after which Assembly sessions will be convened at the new complex.

The inspection team included Deputy Speaker Limison D. Sangma, Commissioner & Secretary Andrew Simons, and officials from various departments.
