Meghalaya to host NE-level women’s cricket tournament

Shillong, Sept 20: In a boost to women’s cricket, the 1st Senior Women’s Interstate Friendship Tournament will be held by the Meghalaya Cricket Association under the auspices of the North East Cricket Development Council (NECDC), at Nongkhrah in Ri-Bhoi district, from September 30, 2024.


Six NECDC states – Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Sikkim – will participate in the T20 tournament. On the other hand, the 2nd Senior Men’s Interstate Friendship Tournament will be hosted by the Nagaland Cricket Association in a 50-over One Day format from 23 to 28 September.


The men’s tournament will be played at two venues – Nagaland Cricket Stadium and Sovima Cricket Ground.


The inaugural women’s tournament will be held at the newly established ground of the Meghalaya Cricket Association, at Pahamsning, Nongkhrah, in Ri-Bhoi district from September 30 to October 4, said Nababrata Bhattacharjee, founder co-convenor of NECDC and also president of Meghalaya Cricket Association.


Both tournaments are aimed at providing match preparation for all the teams before the commencement of the BCCI 2024-25 domestic tournaments, starting from October.


In the men’s tournament, Nagaland, Sikkim and Mizoram have been placed in Group A, while Group B comprises Meghalaya, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh.
In the women’s category, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur are in Group A, while Nagaland, Mizoram and Sikkim are placed in Group B.
