Shillong, Aug 6: The demand for Mawsynram community and rural development (C&RD) block to a civil subdivision has gained momentum with the local traditional body demanding intervention of the chief minister Conrad K Sangma on the matter.
The Synjuk ki Khlieh Nongsynshar Shnong Mawsynram C&RD Block has sought the chief minister’s intervention, citing the need for closer administration and better access to government services.
“The demand for Mawsynram civil subdivision has been on since the past 20 years However, till date nothing has been materialised and so we are bound to follow the issue closely till it is realised,” chairman of the Synjuk, Hiamdor Rapsang, said in a letter submitted to Sangma.
According to the Synjuk, civil subdivision is the only realistic way of bringing the administration closer to the people.
“As the present Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government under your leadership has stated that it’s a people’s government, we are having a strong faith and belief that your government will listen and fulfill to the demand made by the residents of Mawsynram,” stated the letter submitted on Wednesday.
The Synjuk justified its demand with several reasons, including the block’s age (established in 1962), its topography, population (around 65,000), and poor connectivity. The block caters to over 144 villages.
